Chronic Kidney Disease – the Overlooked Causes

Recently an acquaintance with chronic kidney disease asked me what he could do to preserve kidney function and avoid going on dialysis. Since I have never treated folks with chronic kidney disease (CKD) I advised him to follow the advice of his nephrologist.

But that got me to thinking. What are the most overlooked causes of chronic kidney disease, or any other degenerative disease for that matter? I always looked for the underlying cause of the disease. Generally finding the cause tells us what to do to slow the disease down or even reverse it.

But oftentimes the symptom complex … Read the rest

Spring Brings New Life

New life erupts all around us in the spring whether it’s dark and raining or bright and sunny. New life persists, it pushes through.

Flowers blooming, bees buzzing, birds chirping, seedlings poking up out of the ground, little lambs and calves romping all remind us that life continues to be born anew despite circumstances, despite the weather, despite the storms of life.

That’s part of the thrill of gardening. Putting those seemingly dead seeds in the ground and then waiting for what emerges. When those seedlings poke their heads above the earth, they bring joy to our hearts, reminding us … Read the rest

Detox with Pretty Plants

Houseplants lend atmosphere to a room by bringing a bit of the outdoors inside. But did you know that all plants filter toxins from the air? That’s a great benefit to you.

Indoor air may be more polluted than outdoor air, especially if your home or work place is “air tight”. Chemicals outgas from plastics, carpet, furniture, wall coverings and other synthetic materials polluting your air. After you breathe these chemicals into your lungs, they can be absorbed into your body. If your body can’t eliminate them, they get stored in your tissues.

Stored chemicals can cause pain, disability and … Read the rest

Power Drinks

To start your day in a healthy, invigorating way, drink this power drink in the morning. It provides your body its daily requirement of essential fatty acids and protein building blocks. This protein drink combination sustains your blood sugar at an optimal level, preventing the high to low blood sugar swings that occur after a high carbohydrate meal such as cereal, fruit or doughnuts, etc.

If you add a complex carbohydrate to the mixture, you will also create the balance of carbohydrate, protein and fat in your meal that promotes the optimal insulin-glucagon response for weight control.
