In an effort to Save Our Selves, Save Our Children and Save Our Planet from the ubiquitous presence of genetically modified (GM) food in our food supply that carries residues of glyphosate (Roundup) we’re on the hunt for non-GMO sources of food. We’ve already discussed eating only organic food which by definition has to be free of genetically modified components and some ways to find non-GMO food.
Let’s delve a bit further into great resources in our search for non-GMO food.
The Environmental Working Group’s web site contains a wealth of guides and research tools for finding … Read the rest

After reading the “Bad News” about the assault on our health from the big powerful biotech and chemical companies you might be feeling overwhelmed, weak and victimized. (See Our Smartness is Killing Us )

BOUGHT The Movie a Documentary – I’ve arranged a special viewing for you at no charge. I had the privilege of previewing this movie. Its poignant stories and revelations touched me deeply from the revelations of a pediatric nephrologist who treated several children when their kidneys suddenly shut down after receiving a vaccine, all within days of each other; to the emotional stories of parents caring for children severely injured from vaccines.
But all of those stories are suppressed by main stream media, medicine and Big Pharma. Respected … Read the rest

After hearing all of Monsanto and the big food industry companies’ negative campaign against California’s Prop 37 initiative to mandate labeling food that has genetically modified components, I was thrilled to discover that doctors are supporting and endorsing the passage of Prop 37.
But first let’s clarify what we’re talking about when it comes to genetically modified organisms (food) aka GMO.
Understanding Genetically Modified Food
Let’s review basics about genetically modified food. Monsanto, the company that produces the genetically modified seed, controls the patent on these seeds. If a farmer tries to save his own seed like … Read the rest

Have you heard the ads against proposition 37 on our California ballot in November? Some of the statements are obvious lies. Then listen to the list of sponsors of the campaign against prop 37. Monsanto tops the list, followed by the big food industry, none of whom I want to trust with my health. They are more interested in your dollars than your health!
They also want to keep you in the dark about whether you are eating genetically modified food. You may be trying to eat optimally healthy and not be aware of the potential time bomb lurking … Read the rest

As you all know, I [Jean Saffell] support the labeling of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) used in foods. In November, Californians will get a chance to vote on the issue with Proposition 37, the ballot initiative to label genetically engineered foods.
This article outlines what is at stake:

I’d like to point out that 50 other countries do require labeling of Genetically Modified Foods. The companies currently spending millions to oppose labeling in California already label their products sold in other countries. So why do they oppose labeling products for their USA … Read the rest

In the last post we started looking at the ethical and moral implications of the manipulation of our food supply by genetically engineering the food. Biotech companies commonly genetically modify food to make it resistant to herbicides. So we have Monsanto’s “Roundup Ready” corn seed.
When farmers plant the corn, they can spray the herbicide Roundup on the corn plants and the weeds at the same time, killing the weeds but not the corn. This process makes it easy for farmers and is one of the reasons that corn farmers can produce 5,000 tons of food per acre.
Now that’s … Read the rest

Spring has sprung…
Oops – now we’re back to winter again as we arose this morning to snowing falling out of the sky. After 3 years of drought we’re always grateful for the precipitation. When you live in the mountains you stay much more aware of the dry conditions and risk for forest fire.
Nevertheless, we have had a taste of spring and some nice breaks in the weather to work on our garden. A few days ago we had our first treats from the garden – asparagus. We finally get to eat it, so delicious fresh cut. When my … Read the rest
