Meet these wacky characters. You have to laugh at these wacky characters despite their devastating effects on our bodies.
Toxic chemicals abound in our environment. You must be very knowledgeable and vigilant to avoid them. So these folks created a humorous way to present the villains, Hollywood style by bringing them onto the red carpet to give them the “Toxie” awards.
You met the mercury villain in the video above. You can meet his toxic compatriots, BPA, Yellow Soap, Flame Retardants, Lead and others here:

Who’s behind these wacky awards?
“Toxic or ‘Toxie’? Wacky Hollywood tackles serious issue with red carpet performance.
(Hollywood) Red carpet events are common in Tinsel Town, but none quite like “The Toxies.” Costumed characters – actors hired to “be” toxic chemicals – emerge from limousines to walk down the proverbial red carpet to receive “awards” for the harm they are doing to the American public.
The Toxies is led by Physicians for Social Responsibility – Los Angeles (PSR-LA) and Californians for a Healthy and Green Economy with groups across the country.”
“Cancer survivor Fran Drescher, whose organization Cancer Schmancer supports the Toxies, …stating: “Thanks to all of the chemicals in our environment that trigger thousands of cancers each and every year, you’ve got Cancer Schmancer working day and night to kick your little tuchuses!” From http://www.toxies.com/toxies-june-16-2011/
And so more and more people sound the alert to beware of these villains in our environment that poison us insidiously and slowly, a truly diabolical scheme.
Why we’re ignorant about toxic exposure.
The cumulative effects of chemical exposure sneak up on us. We cannot taste, see or smell them. We’re chronically exposed to hidden, small but toxic doses of chemicals daily. Gradually they build up in our cells, tissues and organs.
They accumulate while we’re still feeling good, then whammo, one day we wonder why we’re so sick.
Most everyone is aware of the acute toxic chemical exposures that cause immediate severe symptoms and even death.
But we’re pretty ignorant of the chronic, constant, minute exposures that gradually erode our health without our having any clue about what’s going on.
You’ve read about someone who was sprayed with pesticide and becomes immediately ill. That’s the acute easily recognized exposure. Generally in acute exposures the source of the toxin is obvious and the dose of the chemical toxin is large enough to immediately cause symptoms. Examples include children who drink gasoline, antifreeze or another poisonous chemical stored in an easily accessible and enticing container.
Such acute exposure may result in dramatic and life threatening symptoms and even death.
But there’s another type of exposure to toxic chemicals that slowly poisons us. We don’t even realize where or when the exposures occurred. These stealth chemicals work their way into our cells over a long period of time. So we call this chronic chemical exposure.
