Healthy Shampoo, easy and quick to make.

Healthy Shampoo Recipe

This healthy shampoo recipe is easy and quick  to make and to helps get you away from our chemicalized world.

My scalp was really itching until I started making this healthy shampoo. It’s so quick and easy to make. Just add equal parts of coconut milk and Castille Soap to an old shampoo bottle, shake and you’re ready to shampoo.

Healthy Shampoo Ingredients

  • ¼ cup coconut milk (homemade or canned)
  • 1/4 cup Liquid Castille Soap like Dr. Bronners
  • 20 drops of Essential Oils of choice(I’ve used peppermint, lavender, rosemary and orange or combinations of those)
  • For dry hair: add ½ tsp olive or almond oil (optional)

How to Make Healthy Shampoo

  1. Combine all ingredients in an old shampoo bottle or jar of some kind (pump soap dispensers and even foaming dispensers work well for this. If you use a foaming dispenser, add 1/4 cup of distilled water)
  2. Shake well to mix.
  3. Keep in shower for up to a month.
  4. Shake before each use.
  5. Use about a teaspoon every time you shampoo.
  6. If you use a foaming dispenser, it also makes a great shaving cream- just dilute with 1/4 cup distilled water!

Note: Some people find that a 50:50 mixture of apple cider vinegar and water used as a rinse helps get hair cleaner and increases shine. Also rinsing with cold water helps seal the hair to augment the shine.

I use Trader Joe’s coconut beverage for the coconut milk and Dr. Bronner’s Castille soap. Once you have these two ingredients it’s quicker to make your own healthy shampoo than to go shopping to buy some. I usually make mine in small batches. Beware that this healthy shampoo is a thin liquid, not thick like most chemical shampoos. So I pour the shampoo right onto my hair instead of into my hand. A little bit goes a long way to make a good sudsy lather.
