Keto diet, is it another tool for health? In my 34 years of studying nutrition a lot of “diet gurus” have come and gone and a lot of fad diets have come and gone. Even doctors who actually know something about nutrition have and continue to advocate for a certain way of eating, vegan; vegetarian, low-fat, low-carb, etc. Their mantra seems to be: “If it works really well for me, then everyone else should eat that way too.”
But we all have unique metabolic needs … Read the rest

Understanding the benefits of intermittent fasting may help you get enthusiastic about giving it a try. Remember that intermittent fasting simply refers to the way you space your meals. You may already be doing the simplest fast, waiting 12 hours over night before you eat your next meal by finishing eating by 7 pm and waiting until 7 am to eat breakfast. You can review other varieties of intermittent fasting here: https://www.drjomd.com/2018/07/intermittent-fasting-to-improve-energy/

Let’s explore eating to increase energy and decrease inflammation. We have to eat, but eating consumes 60 to 80% of your body’s energy production according to enzyme-facts.com. On top of that the chemicals produced in normal digestion cause inflammation.
So how can we eat for energy efficiency and decreased inflammation?
1. Eat only organic food, so your body doesn’t have the extra burden of detoxifying pesticides and herbicides. Eating organic food also helps you totally avoid the intestinal damaging genetically modified food (GM food).

Digestion causes inflammation as well as consuming a great portion of our bodies energy production as we learned in the previous article Digestion Uses a Lot of Energy.
“When you eat food, you also increase inflammation in the body. This happens even when you consume so-called “anti-inflammatory” foods. This is because the actual process of digestion stimulates inflammation.
A healthy diet will produce significantly less inflammation than an unhealthy diet, but both will increase inflammation in the body. The harder the meal is to digest, the more inflammatory activity it will provoke.” from https://thetruthaboutcancer.com/how-to-intermittent-fast/

Have you ever noticed that people who don’t eat very much tend to be healthier and live longer even though they may not eat high quality food? When I made that observation I didn’t understand the physiology involved, especially since my focus had been on helping people be optimally nourished.
Let’s explore this phenomenon.
But first, don’t panic thinking that I’m going to ask you to starve! We’re just going to explore some new insights into what works best to keep us at high energy levels with clear thinking.

A few weeks ago we asked, “Would you feed your children this substance?” And we found out that it’s in most of our food. Remember, it’s glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, which is sprayed liberally on our main food production crops, then fed to animals, and it winds up in us when we eat these foods. Most Americans have glyphosate in their urine. It makes holes in the gut, blood vessels, and blood-brain-barrier which allows even more toxins into our bodies and is a class 2 carcinogen.
So what are we to do?
Eat only organically grown… Read the rest

about HR 1599 titled: The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015. This bill was recently passed in the United States House of Representatives and, if passed in the Senate, and signed into law, would preempt any state or local laws requiring labeling of foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMO’s). For all practical purposes clear, easy for the public to understand, GMO labeling requirements would not exist. The following link provides the text of the bill. https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/1599/text
