Compost at home to save the environment

What a simple step to have a remarkably beneficial effect on the environment. Composting your food scraps at home produces healthy soil. But thrown in the garbage they are tightly compacted and so decompose without oxygen creating methane gas – “a greenhouse gas with 23 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide.”

Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement

An important alert about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement. President Obama is trying to get the Fast Track authority so he can negotiate and finalize the agreement without input from Congress or American citizens. Europeans too are on the alert and alarmed about this TPP. It could jeopardize their food labeling laws and their right to ban genetically modified foods from their countries, which many of them have done. Somehow they are smarter or less over run by the intimidation of the chemical and food companies than those of us in the USA, but our right to choose healthy food is at stake too.

The Antibiotic Dilemma

More and more doctors and scientists are finding out that messing up our guts with antibiotics adds to development of disease processes. We need to understand more about this process and how to heal our intestinal environment. The revelation and research in this area particularly interests me because my digestion and health dramatically declined in the early 1980’s from taking numerous rounds  of antibiotics for recurrent infections.
