Deceived and Complacent or Fully Alive

Would you rather stay deceived and complacent (and degenerating) or become Fully Alive?

The greatest challenge to our health is overcoming the constant deception coming to our ears and minds through the media and medical and even alternative health sources. For instance, are you tired of being slammed from one extreme to another by the latest fad diet? Have any of them worked for you?

Have you tried every new highly touted supplement that comes to your attention? Has it given you that promised energy and vitality that you are looking for?

I suspect that they have not. We all want that magic pill, that instant gratification.

And of course the people selling the diet or products want that instant gratification of receiving your dollars.

Did you notice how quickly the food industry started producing low carb foods, just the opposite of low fat foods that preceded the low carb phase? Basically any industry provides what you will buy. So if you stop buying low fat foods, of course the industry will switch to producing the low carb foods you are buying now.

So, who is in charge here? – YOU ARE! Did you ever realize that? Yep you create the market. Pretty neat concept. You are NOT a victim unless you continue to be deceived.

Scientific research supports the concept that low carb diets are healthy, but only if the foods are organic, whole, fresh and properly prepared and consumed with a balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat appropriate for your metabolic type.

Unfortunately prepared and fast foods are dead, have been around a long time and are so processed that by the time you eat them, whether that food is low fat or low carb, there are only empty calories left. Calories that provide deficient and inflammatory building blocks for your body.

Evidence collected by my mentor and long time friend Dr. Nancy Appleton, PhD, reveals that inflammation is the cause of degenerative disease. She carefully describes the life-style habits that create the inflammation in our bodies that eventually cause us to have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, etc. Then she beautifully reveals how to reverse or avoid the creation of pain and suffering in our bodies.

Guess what. Dr. Appleton’s revelation of the things that cause us to feel bad, to be in pain, to be tired, achy, etc. are the same ones that I discovered in my research, experience and clinical practice. Basically we are sick because of a triad of:

  • Poor nutrition
  • Toxicity
  • Unfriendly organisms

Also, stress that is handled inappropriately becomes dis-stress adding to the inflammation in the body.

She presents the evidence in a compelling manner and from a slightly different perspective than I do. You need to hear the truth from more than one person. I highly recommend her book.

Dr. Appleton notes that “in the late nineteenth century German physiologist Rudolph Virchow proposed that heart disease was caused by inflammation” because “the hearts of people who had died of heart attacks looked like bruised and infected flesh”. That concept was revived briefly in the twentieth century until doctors focused on low fat diets and cholesterol control with diet and drugs.

However, in the 1980’s Dr. Libby’s research confirmed the inflammatory cause of heart disease However, that concept has not caught on yet with doctors or the public even though it’s been around now for 100 years. Ironically, the day after I read the heart disease section of Dr. Appleton’s book, the Washington Post and USA Today newspaper came out with front page articles with these headlines, “New heart disease factor, cutting inflammation may be as helpful as lowering cholesterol.” and “New heart villain seen, inflammation as bad as bad cholesterol”. The articles inferred that this was a new concept even to doctors.

I have to admit that as physicians we are generally as deceived as the general public about the causes of disease and how to prevent or reverse them. Unfortunately we are also duped into thinking “One disease, one cause, one magic bullet drug cure”.

Wouldn’t it be great if that were true? Life would be so much easier.

We do run out of space to keep our books – I understand that problem. However, it’s pretty impossible to summarize all the great information in Dr. Appleton’s book Stop Inflammation and she is such a good writer.
